The Pursuit of Helvetica 2

The Pursuit of Helvetica 1

The passion for Helvetica continues to thrive within my typographic genes. During my time as a high school kid I’d create project titles for my technical drawing class projects from Letraset rub downs. Helvetica was the only font available and from the age of 15 my passion grew. The fun part was creating a letterform you’d already used using only the available remaining characters.

Welcome to MO

Missouri (MO) is rich with typographic finds, many of which can be discovered along the classic Route 66 which travels through the heart of St. Louis. This find stands opposite the entrance to the Botanical Gardens Shaw Nature Reserve, for the Franklin’s Shaw is the the most idyllic attraction around St. Louis.

Type Teaching

One of the pleasures teaching Typography at Washington University St. Louis is being able to take the time to appreciate the craft of graphic design and the tools in which we use. Here the junior Type class ‘hand draw’ a given letter without the use of rulers and french curves and painstakingly craft this huge letter to near perfection. Typography can be art.
